Hi everyone! The Fanart Contest was a HUGE success! I couldn’t be more thankful for all the incredible submissions and all praise goes to the wonderful artists that shared their talent in this event. I’ve listed the rankings below starting with the Top 3 prizes, Honored Mention, Minor Awards, then the remaining entries.
If you’re reading this, I want to express how difficult my decisions were when selecting prizes for the submitted pieces. Seeing everyone’s hard work and impressive creativity / talent, really hit me hard in the final days of reviewing. I, honest to god, WISH that I won the lottery or something so I could give each and every single submission a prize. Please believe me when I say that every single artist that participated has my respect, my adoration, and the highest praise I can give. My draft of the minor rewards in particular was extremely hard to narrow and re-ordered many times until I’ve settled on the final list. In that vain, the “Remaining Participants” section in this gallery are ranked by date of submission, NOT how close someone was to getting a prize. Artist names and social links are beneath their respective submissions. I highly recommend checking them all out and discovering new artists you’d like to follow!

1st Place
First place…simply remarkable! There are just so many things to adore about this submission. The use of color is amazing. From the corrosive greens from the under-city to the bright neon lights inside, it all looks so wonderfully crafted. And speaking of wonderfully crafted, the details I’ve spotted are such a delight! There’s so many, that I can’t even list them all here. The artist clearly worked hard to create a piece that fully captures the scene of Jinx and Ekko running into the Green Glass Room – beyond what the story even told. On the left you can spot the many patrons dancing behind the glass. On the right, there’s Jinx’s banned poster, the nightclub’s sign and another room of the club. This is all layered with Jinx’s hallucinated scribbles and words, and I absolutely love it. Of course, Jinx and Ekko are also amazing in their detail. I think this piece really did so much to take one scene of written words and elevate that into a realized moment in time. If this showed up on the monitors of the artists in the Arcane “Behind the Scenes” documentary, I’d believe it to be a brilliant, scene-making, artwork that defined what Arcane would become. No question. Well done!

A comic. A freaking, 13 page comic that captures the moment that Ekko told Jinx he likes her! Oh my god this is amazing! The effort required to submit something like this is beyond my imagination and the artist deserves a huge amount of love for their work. I particularly adore the use of black and white as the main theme of the comic, shifting that every so often to really pop the color of Jinx’s eyes, or abstract thoughts. My favorite page? Page 5. Seeing the image of Jinx and Ekko slowly growing and turning away from one another was a gut-punch of an image in it’s own right, and really makes me love that the story is able to repair what was almost certainly a fractured relationship. There’s also an incredible amount of effort shown in making sure each page is uniquely designed so that no two pages feel the same. That’s something that I really appreciate and it clearly elevates what could’ve been a slide show of static images into a comic that really embraces the thoughts and feelings within that scene. The very purpose of this contest was to bring scenes from the story to life, and this comic does that insanely well. It’s something I will look back at and read with a smile on my face, long after the story is complete.
3rd Place
Third place is another incredibly unique submission! The bold outline style on the characters and the awesome use of lighting for the candles, Firelights, and night are weaved together so well. This piece really has both the sharp, defined details required to create such believable characters and the soft, subtle shading and construction for setting the scene. I also love the artist’s decision to include the Firelights. While they are minor characters in the story, their presence is important and not only is Scar and Brina in frame, but a few others too. It really sells the moment and I absolutely love how it turned out. Jinx and Ekko are also spectacularly presented. I adore Ekko’s determined, scowl of an expression and Jinx’s horror. Those feelings that were present in the scene itself were captured beautifully. Magnificent overall!
